Dark Brown Sugar: Dark brown sugar adds richness and consistency, though honey can be used as a substitute.
Apple Cider Vinegar: Apple Cider Vinegar adds a tang.

Dijon Mustard: Dijon Mustard provide a salty, savory depth.

Freeze: Yes, you can freeze watermelon BBQ sauce! Simply transfer it to a freezer bag, removing as much air as possible. It can be frozen up to three months. Thaw in the fridge and give it a good stir before using to restore its consistency.
Ingredients
3 ½ cup Watermelon (cubed)
½ cup Apple Cider Vinegar
¼ cup Dark Brown Sugar, packed
¼ cup Soy sauce
3 nos. Garlic cloves
2 tbsp Olive oil
2 tbsp Red chili Sauce or Hot sauce
2 nos. Tomatoes
2 tbsp Dijon mustard
Preparation
- Step 1: Add watermelon, tomato and garlic cloves in a blender, blend until smooth.


- Step 2: In a saucepan over medium heat, add blended watermelon mixture, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, brown sugar, chili paste, Dijon mustard & olive oil, cook for 30-35 minutes stirring occasionally or until the sauce has thickened and reduced by half.


- Step 3: Remove the saucepan from heat and let it cool for 10 minutes. Store in air tight container in the refrigerator and enjoy the BBQ sauce as marinade & dipping sauce.
Pro tips:
You can easily double or triple the recipe if you’re making a larger batch.
Be patient as the sauce cooks down. Keep it on medium heat and let it simmer slowly to develop rich flavours.
If grilling or roasting, baste your vegetables or meat with extra sauce to seal in the flavour.
Unused sauce for basting or marinating can be spooned over cooked veggies or meats before serving for added flavour.
