Ingredients for Strawberry Jalapeño Margarita:

  • Fresh strawberries: The cornerstone of any great cocktail is the quality of its ingredients and fresh strawberries are no exception. Seek out the ripest, most flavourful strawberries you can find to elevate the taste of your margaritas. While fresh strawberry is preferable, frozen strawberries can be used as well.

  • Jalapeños: Jalapeños add a delightful kick to these margaritas, but their heat levels can vary. Typically, using a standard Jalapeño will result in milder cocktail. I have used both the red and green jalapeños. However, if you’re sensitive to spice or craving an extra kick, adjust the number of slices accordingly. You can also skip the red jalapeño, as they are more spicier than the green one. Don’t hesitate to experiment with Bhut Jolokia or Ghost peppers if you’re feeling adventurous and desire more heat.

  • Tequila: The choice between silver tequila and Reposado tequila ultimately depends on personal preference. Silver tequila, also known as Blanco, platinum or white, is a tequila that can be bottled right after distillation. The word “Blanco” translates to “white” in Spanish, and generally means the tequila is devoid of colour. Silver tequila is the most budget-friendly option. Reposado tequila, aged briefly in oak barrels or tanks for a minimum 2 months and up to 364 days. It is made from blue agave plants, steamed-cooked, fermented, distilled and aged in barrels. Reposado tequila has a light straw colour with notes of vanilla and caramel. The slight ageing process helps to temper the strong agave flavour without masking it and adds a subtle balance of fruits, floral and spices.

  • Lime juice: Fresh lime juice is paramount for truly authentic margarita experience. Avoid bottled lime juice with additives, as they can compromise the cocktail flavour. The vibrant acidity of fresh lime juice enhances the drinks complexity and is non-negotiable for discerning cocktail enthusiasts.

  • Maple syrup: Elevate your margarita with the rich depth of maple syrup. Its unique flavour profile adds complexity and pairs wonderfully with the other ingredients. Alternatively, you can use simple syrup made by dissolving equal part cane sugar in warm water. Experiment with different sweeteners to tailor the cocktail to taste preferences.

  • Ice: Whether crushed or cubed, ice is essential for achieving the perfect chill and dilution in your margarita.

  • Margarita Rim: Enhance the sensory experience of your margarita by rimming the glass with a tantalizing blend of sugar, salt and tajin seasoning. The combination of sweetness, saltiness, smokiness and spice tantalizes the taste buds with each sip, complementing the drinks flavours beautifully.

Storage Tips:

To maintain its freshness and fizz, refrain from storing the Strawberry Jalapeño Margarita once club soda is added. Optimal storage involves sealing it in a container without the club soda and refrigerating for a maximum of 3 hours. This ensures the drink retains its crispiness and refreshing taste.

Pro tips:

  • To craft the perfect Strawberry Jalapeño Margarita, quality ingredients and attention to detail are key. Start with the tequila, selecting the one you genuinely enjoy sipping on its own.

  • Freshness is paramount, opt for ripe strawberries and squeeze your own lime juice for the most vibrant flavour. Avoid diluted store-bought juices for an unauthentic taste experience.

  • If you are sensitive to spicy chilies make sure to wear gloves while slicing the jalapeños.

  • Taste as you mix to tailor sweetness and heat levels to your preference, as everyone’s palate varies.

  • When serving at a party, chill glasses beforehand to maintain the cocktails coldness.

  • Don’t fret if you lack a cocktail shaker, a mason jar with a lid serves as a worthy substitute.

  • For a balanced spice, deseed and remove membranes from Jalapeños before infusing them in tequila.

  • To extract maximum juices from limes, a quick zap in the microwave and a gentle roll on the counter top softens them effectively, particularly useful for older, tougher limes.
