Santa Claus, also known as St. Nicolas, is a beloved Christmas icon. Known for his rosy cheeks, snow-white beard and bright red suit topped with a matching hat. Santa Claus is not just a symbol of Christmas but also a beloved figure tied to the magic of gift-giving. The story of Santa dates back to 1800s, where Santa is said to live at the North Pole with his team of hard-working elves. These magical helpers spend all year crafting toys for children, while Santa prepares for his famous sleigh ride on Christmas Eve, guided by his loyal reindeer, with red-nosed Rudolph leading the way.

Tools and Ingredients You will Need for Mini Santa Claus Cake:

Creating these Santa cakes doesn’t require a sleigh full of gadgets- just a few essentials,

  • Vanilla Cupcakes: Bake moist vanilla cupcakes as your foundation.

  • Frosting: Buttercream frosting is used to layer the cupcakes and frost the Santa cake. Whipped cream frosting is used for Santa’s beard, hair and Santa’s hat trim.

  • Sugar Pearls: These make the cutest, merry eyes for Santa.

  • Fondant: White and yellow coloured fondant is used for belt of Santa.

  • Spatula: Spatula is used for smooth buttercream application.

  • Piping bags and tips: Use Wilton 1A for Santa’s hands and body, and closed star tips like Wilton 1M for details such as Santa’s beard, hat trim and moustache.

Storage Tips and Serving:

  • Refrigeration: The decorated cake should be stored in the refrigerator, properly covered with plastic wrap, or stored in an airtight container. This ensures freshness and maintains quality for approximately 3-4 days.

  • Serving Temperature: Before serving, allow the refrigerated cake to sit at room temperature for 30 minutes to an hour. This enhances its flavours and softens the texture, ensuring a more enjoyable and delicious experience with every bite.

Ingredients

  • 6 nos. Vanilla Cupcake

  • 2 batch Buttercream

  • 1 cup Whipped Cream

  • Black Sugar Pearls

  • White & Yellow fondant for Belt

  • Bamboo Skewer

Preparation

  • Step 1: Place one cupcake on a serving platter or cake board. Spread a layer of buttercream frosting on top. Place the second cupcake upside down over the first cupcake, then spread a layer of buttercream frosting and place the third cupcake. Secure the cupcakes by inserting a bamboo skewer in the center and cut off the excess part.
  • Step 2: Apply a thin layer of buttercream frosting over the entire cake to seal in crumbs. Refrigerate for 30 minutes to set.
  • Step 3: Cover the bottom part of the cake with red frosting to create Santa’s suit. Use Wilton 1A nozzle to create Santa’s hat. Dip your spatula in warm water and wipe it clean with a towel so that it’s dry but warm to the touch. Slowly smooth the buttercream frosting of body and hat. Repeat heating your tools, drying them off, and smoothing the frosting until you’ve got the smoothest buttercream you’ve ever seen.
  • Step 4: Use Wilton 1A nozzle to create Santa’s hand. Pipe red buttercream on the side of Santa’s body for long sleeves of Santa’s suit and use white buttercream for hands, check the YouTube video for step-by-step instruction. Refrigerate for overnight to set.
  • Step 5: With white fondant make a long strip for Santa’s belt and create a small square with yellow fondant for the belt and glue it on the belt with water. Place the white fondant belt just below the hands. Pipe whipped cream frosting to create Santa’s beard, moustache, hair and decorate the hat. Add sugar pearls for the eyes and create lip with red frosting. Use black buttercream frosting for the shoes. Refrigerate for overnight to set. (check the YouTube video for step-by-step instruction.)
