Quick Pickled Onion

Pickled onion with their zesty tang and enticing crunch, have long been a staple in culinary landscapes across the globe. Pickled onion is a classic addition to sandwiches and burgers, it provide a burst of flavour and a delightful crunch that complements the textures of the other ingredients. Pickled onion can transform a simple salad into a taste sensation. Whether added to leafy greens, potato salads or grain bowls. They bring a refreshing contrast to the mix. Pickled onion is also used as topping for tacos and tostadas, imparting a vibrant colour and tangy kick. Paired with cheese pickled onion creates a sophisticated balance of flavours. The acidity cuts through the richness of the cheese, enhancing the tasting experience.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 1/2 cup vinegar

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tbsp sugar

  • 1 no. Onion, cleaned & peeled

  • 1 tbsp mustard seeds

  • 1 tbsp black peppercorn

  • 1 tsp paprika powder (optional)

Preparation

  • Heat water, vinegar, sugar and salt in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the sugar and salt has dissolved, about 2-3 minute. Turn off the heat and keep aside to cool.

  • Meanwhile, slice the onion and arrange them in a clean jar.

  • Next add mustard seeds and black peppercorn and for extra kick you can add paprika to the jar. Pour the cooled brine over the onions, ensuring they are fully submerged and press down with a spoon.

  • Then store the jar in the refrigerator.

  • Your pickled onions will be ready to eat once they are bright pink and tender. Its best to leave them for overnight. These delightful onions can be stored in the fridge for up to 2 weeks, offering a zesty and versatile addition to a range of dishes.
