Ingredients you need for Baked Spaghetti & Meatballs :

For Meatballs:

  • Chicken mince: I like to use 5-7% fat mince for added flavour, though low-fat options are also suitable.

  • Finely chopped Onion & Garlic: Onion and Garlic adds depth of flavour and texture.

  • Salt & Pepper: Salt and pepper for seasoning the meatballs.

  • Italian Seasoning: Italian Seasoning enhances the overall taste.

  • Egg: Egg act as a binding agent for the meatballs.

  • Mayonnaise: A full fat mayonnaise also serves as a great binder for the meatballs that keeps them flavourful, juicy and tender.

  • Breadcrumbs: Breadcrumb is essential for tender meatballs.

For Spaghetti and Sauce:

  • Pasta: Spaghetti is ideal, but any pasta of your choice works.

  • Tomato sauce: Choose your favourite jarred sauce or try our Homemade Tomato Sauce.

  • Whole Milk: Whole Milk adds creaminess, water or broth can be used as substitutes.

  • Water: Water helps to distribute the pasta sauce and cook the paste.

  • Seasonings: To elevate the flavours, use fresh basil, oregano, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika powder and Italian seasoning.

  • Butter: Butter adds a rich flavour to the recipe.

  • Cheese: A mix of parmesan and mozzarella offers a perfect blend of creamy and stretchy textures, but feel free to adjust based on your preference.

Can I make this recipe ahead?

Certainly! You can prepare this dish in advance, but keep in mind that the pasta will absorb more liquid as it sits. Cook the dish and cool it completely. Store in a airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two days.

Storage Tips:

  • Refrigeration: Store the leftover pasta in a airtight container in the refrigerator for up to five days.

  • Reheating: Remove from the fridge about an hour before reheating to let the meatballs warm slightly. Reheat in a lidded pan over low-medium heat for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thoroughly hot. You may need to add a splash of warm milk or boiling water to loosen the sauce. Alternatively, you can microwave it or bake it briefly until the cheese is bubbly again.

  • Freezing: Store cooled leftovers in a covered container and freeze. When ready to use them, defrost overnight and reheat.

Ingredients

For Meatballs:

  • 250 gm Chicken mince

  • 1 no. Onion, finely chopped

  • 1 tbsp Garlic, finely chopped

  • Salt to taste

  • 1 tsp Freshly cracked Black Pepper

  • 1 tsp Italian Seasoning

  • 1 tbsp Mayonnaise

  • 1 no. Egg

  • 3-4 tbsp Breadcrumbs

  • 1 tbsp Olive oil

For Spaghetti and sauce:

  • 200 gm Dried Spaghetti

  • 400 gm Tomato sauce

  • 1 tsp Paprika powder

  • 1 tsp Onion powder

  • 1 tsp Garlic powder

  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning

  • 1 tsp Dried Oregano

  • 300 ml Whole Milk

  • 300 ml boiled Water

  • 1 tbsp Butter

  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese

  • 1 cup Mozzarella cheese

  • Handful of fresh Basil

Preparation

  • Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, combine chicken mince, finely chopped Onion & garlic, mayonnaise, salt, freshly cracked Black Pepper, Italian Seasoning, mayonnaise, egg and breadcrumbs.
  • Step 2: Mix everything properly using your hand or  spatula. Then form the mixture into 8 meatballs. Preheat the oven @180ºC.
  • Step 3: Place the prepared meatballs in a greased baking tray and bake for 12-15 minutes. They don’t need to be fully cooked at this point, as they’ll cook further in the sauce.
  • Step 5: Now, add paprika powder, onion powder, garlic powder, Italian seasoning and Dried Oregano.
  • Step 6: Next add milk and mix everything properly.
  • Step 7: Then add spaghetti and break them if you need and stir well.
  • Step 8: Next add boiled water and stir to mix.
  • Step 9: Then cover the baking dish with a aluminium foil. The foil traps hot steam and helps the pasta and meatballs cook evenly. Preheat the oven @200ºC. Bake the spaghetti & meatballs in preheated oven for 30 minutes.
  • Step 10: Carefully remove the baked pasta from the oven and mix up the pasta. Then add mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese, butter and fresh basil ribbons and pop it back in the oven for another 10 minutes without lid.
  • Step 11: Then remove from the oven and top with more parmesan and fresh basil and serve immediately. Enjoy!
