How to Grow Mung Bean Sprouts | Kitchenstagram

Growing delicious Mung Bean Sprouts at home is surprisingly simple. With just a container, water and time, you can enjoy crispy, fresh sprouts- an essential ingredient in many Asian dishes.

Although they are easy to grow, patience is important. Water the sprouts often to help them become long, plump and crispy, otherwise, they may turn thin and stringy. Keep them away from light so they develop a yellow colour instead of turning green. An black cloth placed over the bean plater works well for keeping the sprouts in darkness.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup Dried Mung Beans

  • Steel Colander

  • Black cotton cloth

Preparation

  • Step 1: Day 1: 8 am Soak the beans in water. 8 pm rinse the beans and place it onto a steel colander, cover with a wet cotton napkin.
  • Step 2: Day 2: 8 am rinse the sprouted moong bean in water, cover with the wet cotton napkin. 8 pm rinse the sprouted moong bean in water, cover with the wet cotton napkin.
  • Step 3: Repeat this for another 3-4 days or until the sprouts are of your desired length.
  • Step 4: Sprouts can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container for 3-5 days.
