Ingredients for mango milkshake:
- Mangoes: most important ingredient for mango milkshake is, of course mangoes. It is crucial to choose fully ripe and sweet mangoes with a vibrant colour and sweet aroma for the milkshake. This will ensure a rich and flavorful milkshake. The ideal choice for this recipe is alphonso mangoes as they provide best colour and flavour. However, you can use any type of mangoes. If you opt for fibrous varieties, its best to strain the mango pulp before blending it with milk to ensure smooth consistency. Avoid using semi-sweet, sour or raw mango with milk as they can cause the milk to curdle.
- Milk: Milk is another essential component of a mango milkshake. I have used full fat milk but you can use any type of milk you prefer, such as skim milk, toned milk or fat-free milk, they all work well. If using fresh milk, it is advisable to boil and chill it before incorporating it into the recipe for those following vegan diet, non-dairy milk alternatives like soya milk, coconut milk, almond milk and cashew milk can be used. It’s preferable to use chilled milk instead of ice cubes to maintain the creamy texture.
- Sweetener: to sweeten your mango milkshake, you have various options. Sugar syrup is recommended as it not only adds sweetness but also imparts a shine to the shake. However, you can also use honey or maple syrup or agave syrup as alternatives. Keep in mind that using ingredients like dates, jaggery, palm sugar, brown sugar or jaggery sugar may alter the flavour and colour of your milkshake. If you enjoy these flavours, feel free to experiment with them.
- Garnish: Top your mango milkshake with heavy cream or whipping cream, along with some sliced pistachio.
Tips for Mango Milkshake:
- Always use fully ripe and sweet mango for best result.
- Adjust quantity of sweetener based on the natural sweetness of the mangoes you are using.
- When mangoes are not in season you can use canned mangoes as substitute.
- You can use ice cream in your shake to make it even creamier and more indulgent.
- If you are using fibrous mangoes, remember to strain the mango pulp and then blend it with milk.
- Chill the mangoes in the fridge for couple of hours before using in the recipe. This eliminates the need for ice cubes and maintains the desired creamy texture. You can freeze the mangoes to get a thick consistency shake.
- Additionally, using sugar syrup instead of granulated sugar adds a glossy finish to your shake.
