Easy Overnight Oats Recipe | Breakfast Recipe | Kitchenstagram

When someone ask me for a simple, nourishing breakfast that actually fits into a hectic schedule, overnight oats are always my top pick. They’re made ahead, portioned individually and ready to grab as you’re running out the door. Even better, they keep you satisfied for hours, thanks to the wholesome base of oats and whatever creamy liquid you choose. And honestly, they’re surprisingly fun to put together.

You might wonder what could possibly make oats exciting. The answer is how adaptable they are. Once you master the basic method of soaking the oats in the fridge overnight, you unlock endless possibilities. You can mix in flavours like cinnamon, cocoa or vanilla, or finish them with anything from crunchy nuts to juicy fruit. With just a few tweaks, the same recipe becomes something completely new.

This method creates a cool, velvety breakfast that feels almost like a treat. The process couldn’t be easier, combine the oats with milk or yogurt, stir in any add-ons you love and chill. By morning, everything softens into a creamy bowl that needs no cooking at all. It’s the kind of breakfast that gently eases you into the day while still giving you steady energy.

What makes overnight oats truly special is how effortlessly they fit into weekly routines. Prepare a several jars on a Sunday night, and you’ll have breakfast sorted for days. They stay fresh, taste great and free you from rushing around in the mornings. I’ve made them endlessly over the years without ever getting tired of them because the variations are limitless- sweet, fruity, nutty, chocolatey or even more protein-packed with yogurt or seeds.

If you like adding extra nutrition, toss in pumpkin seeds, chia, sesame or any edible seeds you prefer. They add texture, a nutrient boost and a little crunch that makes each spoonful more interesting. The beauty of this recipe is that it bends to suit your preferences- whether you want something light and fruity, rich and creamy or packed with mix-ins for extra fuel. Overnight oats are more than a quick breakfast- they’re blank canvas. Once you start experimenting, you’ll find yourself coming back to them day after day, each time with a fresh twist that keeps mornings delicious and effortless.

Why you’ll love this recipe:

  • Wholesome Fuel: Delivers a balance that keeps you energized and satisfied well into your day.

Ingredients needed for Kiwi & Red Grape Overnight Oats:

When I prepare my staple batch of overnight oats, these are the elements I reach for to create a creamy, satisfying breakfast,

  • Oats: The foundation of the recipe. Rolled oats work beautifully, but I often lean toward quick oats because they soften more and give a silky, pudding-like finish. Gluten-free oats are perfectly fine too. The only type to avoid is steel-cut, as they won’t soften enough overnight.

  • Milk: You’ll need some sort of liquid to hydrate the oats and milk is the go-to for a smooth, rich result. Any kind of dairy milk fits-full-fat, 2%, or low-fat. Plant-based options, such as almond, coconut, cashew or oat milk are equally delicious and offer different flavour profiles.

  • Chia Seeds: Though optional, I almost always add them. They plump up as they soak, helping the oats set into a thicker, creamier consistency. Plus, they bring extra nutrients like healthy fats, fiber and protein, making the bowl more filling.

  • Greek Yogurt: For even more creaminess, a spoonful of Greek Yogurt does wonders. It adds tang, body, and a protein boost that keeps you energized longer.

  • Sweetener: If you prefer a hint of sweetness, honey or maple syrup blends smoothly into the mixture. Since oats are mild, a touch of sweetness really rounds out the flavour.

  • Toppings: This is the fun part. You can finish your oats with whatever you like- fresh or dried fruit, nuts, seeds, nut butters or warming spices. I’ve recently enjoyed topping mine with red grapes, kiwi and almond flakes for a mix of freshness and crunch.

Can overnight oats be made ahead of time?

You can absolutely prep overnight oats with yogurt in advance. Mix everything, portion into jars and refrigerate. They stay fresh for several days, making them a convenient grab-and-go breakfast that’s ready whenever you are.

  • 1/2 cup Quick Oats

  • 1 tbsp Chia Seeds

  • 1 cup Whole Milk

  • 1/2 cup Curd

  • 1 tbsp Honey

  • Kiwi, chopped

  • Red Grapes, sliced

  • Almonds, slivered

Preparation

  • Step 1: In a bowl, combine quick oats, chia seeds, milk, curd and honey, stir well to combine. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  • Step 2: In the morning, top with diced kiwi, sliced red grapes and slivered almonds flakes.
  • Step 3: Serve straight away. Enjoy!!

Pro tips:

  • Tailor your overnight oats with any mix-ins you enjoy-once the base is ready, the options are endless.

  • Choose your liquid based on taste and texture preferences, from dairy to plant-based milk or yogurt for extra richness

  • Sweeteners are optional, add a little if you like, using any natural or traditional option.

  • Enhance nutrition by adding seeds such as chia, flax, pumpkin, sunflower, sabja or melon seeds.

  • Include fruits, dried fruits or nuts for flavour and crunch, keeping in mind that some fruits don’t pair well with milk.

  • Add-ons like nut butters, chocolate, cacao nibs, jams or homemade fruit sauces boost flavour and variety.

  • Use rolled or quick oats- both work well. Quick oats soften faster, making them ideal foe short soaking times.

  • Blend leftover overnight oats into smoothies for a thicker, more satisfying drink.
