Ingredients needed for Greek lemon Chicken:

This Lemon Chicken recipe relies on everyday staples, making it easy to pull together without special shopping trip. This ingredients work together to delver juicy meat and bold Mediterranean character.

  • Chicken: Chicken thighs are the best choice for this dish because they stay moist and tender during cooking. You can use bone-in or boneless pieces, with or without skin. Skin on thighs add richer flavour and a slightly crisp finish, while skinless options are lighter yet still satisfying. If starting with frozen chicken, be sure it’s fully thawed in the refrigerator before marinating to ensure even cooking.

  • Liquids: Extra-virgin olive oil and freshly squeezed lemon juice form the backbone of the marinade. The oil keeps the chicken succulent and carries flavour, while the lemon juice brightens the dish and gently tenderizes the meat. For a more pronounced citrus note, lemon zest can be mixed into marinade, or thin lemon rounds can be placed over the chicken as it cooks.

  • Seasonings: A simple blend of oregano, garlic, salt and black pepper creates a classic Mediterranean profile. Dried oregano is especially important here, as it delivers a deeper, more concentrated herbal flavour than fresh. While oregano is traditional, other dried herbs can be substituted to slightly change the character of the dish without overpowering the lemon.

Serving suggestions:

Serve the Greek lemon Chicken with steamed rice, soft polenta or nutty quinoa all work beautifully. Light, crisp Greek Salad bring freshness to the plate. Peppery green or a classic Mediterranean-style salad pair especially well with lemony herby chicken. A rustic loaf or soft flatbread is perfect for soaking up the pan juices and completes the meal effortlessly. Simple cooked vegetables like green beans or other seasonal veggies or Greek Lemon Potatoes, finish with citrus make a bright, flavourful addition.

  • Freezing: For longer storage, transfer the chicken to freezer-friendly containers or bags. Properly stored, they’ll keep well for a few months. Move them to the refrigerator a day ahead to thaw gently.
