Different from the Indo-Chinese Chili Chicken, Andhra Green Chili Chicken or green chili chicken, stands out with its fiery green hue and intense heat, thanks to its main ingredient- green chilies. The dish’s bold flavours come from simple ingredients- fresh green chili and succulent chicken. Just a few basic spices complete the mix, making it an easy yet unforgettable recipe.
This spicy chicken delight is a quick-cook dish perfect for any occasion. Surprisingly, it’s not as popular in Andhra Pradesh itself, but instead made famous by the Andhra-style restaurants in Bengaluru. Andhra Green Chili Chicken is a hit at parties as a starter or appetizer and also pairs well with various rice dishes like Pulao, Fried Rice, Jeera Rice or even roti and paratha.

Ingredients:
4 tbsp Oil
1 tsp Cumin seeds
3 nos. Onion, sliced
10-15 pcs. Mild Green Chili
½ tsp Turmeric Powder
10-15 pcs. Less spicy Green chili, slitted
For Chicken Marination:
700 gm Chicken, curry cut
2 medium size Onion, cubed
2 tbsp Ginger, sliced
8-10 nos. Garlic cloves
2-4 pcs. Fresh Green Chili, chopped
½ tsp Turmeric Powder
2 tbsp Oil
2 tbsp Lime juice
Salt to taste
For the Green Paste:
10-15 pcs. Spicy Green Chili
1 cup Fresh Coriander Leaves, with cleaned roots
Preparation:
For Chicken Marination:
- Step 1: In a grinder jar add Onion, ginger, garlic and a little bit of water, grind it into a fine paste. Keep aside for further use.

- Step 2: In a bowl add chicken, onion & ginger-garlic paste, sliced green chili, lime juice, turmeric, oil and salt mix everything properly, keep aside for half an hour to 2-3 hours.

For the Green Paste:
- Step 3: In a grinder jar add fresh coriander along with the roots, green chilies, and little bit of water, grind it into a fine paste. Keep aside for further use.

For Andhra Green Chili Chicken:
- Step 4: In a wok heat oil, then add cumin seeds, fry for a minute and allow to pop. Then add slitted green chili, cover and saute for 1-2 minutes.

- Step 5: Then add sliced onion, and a pinch of salt. Cover and cook for 6-8 minutes on medium heat.

- Step 6: Then add turmeric and marinated chicken, stir to combine. Cover and cook on low flame for 10-15 minutes, until the chicken is 80% cooked.

- Step 7: Then add the green masala paste, stir to combine. Cover and cook on low flame for 8-10 minutes, until the chicken is fully cooked.

- Step 8: Turn off the flame and transfer the Green Chili Chicken to a serving platter. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot. Enjoy!!
