Pineapple Mai Tai | Mai Tai Cocktail | Kitchenstagram
If you’re in the mood for a tropical escape, the Pineapple Mai Tai is your ticket to paradise. This bright and fruity cocktail puts a sun-kissed spin on the original Mai Tai by incorporating pineapple juice into the classic blend. What results is a smooth, layered drink that’s perfect for summer evenings, beachside lounging, or simply bringing a bit of island flair to your home bar. Its popularity was boosted even further by its appearance in Hawaiian culture and cinema, especially during the boom of tropical-themed entertainment in the 20th century.
Rooted in Tiki bar culture, the original Mai Tai gained popularity in mid-20th century America, thanks to its mix of rum, citrus and distinctive almond note of orgeat syrup. The Pineapple Mai Tai builds on that iconic flavour by blending rum with fresh pineapple juice and lime juice. While traditional version rely on lime, this one balances the tartness with the natural sweetness and tropical aroma of pineapple, creating a more fruit forward experience.
The cocktail also plays beautifully with texture and colour. Dark rum float over the golden pineapple base not only enhances the flavour but gives it that layered, sunset-like look that tiki cocktails are known for. Orgeat syrup continues to be the soul of the drink, providing a nutty richness that complements the fruity components. If orgeat isn’t on hand, you can substitute with a splash of simple syrup and a hint of almond extract for a similar flavour profile.
Whether you are hosting a luau or just looking to brighten your evening or for gatherings, weekend wind-downs or casual sipping, this Pineapple Mai Tai brings tropical cheer in every sip. It’s easy to make, fun to serve and always a crowd pleaser- especially when garnished with a wedge of pineapple, a cherry and mint for that festive finishing touch.
